Golf Guidance - Kings’ Course

The Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii is known for sunny skies and endless views that stretch from Mauna Kea to the deep blue Pacific Ocean. Along with upscale resorts and comfortable condominiums, Waikoloa is home to two of the best courses on the island. The Waikoloa Golf Courses are known for their upscale resort atmosphere that is both casual and competitive.
The Kings’ Course is a marvel of Robert Trent Jones design. The course that weaves through lava fields, native vegetation and strategically places water features that challenge the handicapped player without alienating the casual vacation player. The more challenging of the pair, the Kings’ Course is a 7074 yard par 72 course that is designed in the traditional Scottish links style on land that was previous barren lava fields.
The course starts with a lovely par 4 that is 374 yards from the back tee and 300 yards from the forward tee. It is a humble start to full 18 holes that includes a pair of par 5 and par 3 holes on the front nine as well as the back nine. The rest of the course is a collection of par 4 holes that have wide fairways, crafty sand and water features. Also found on the course are several lava outcroppings. Many who have become intimate with these lava bluffs have learned to use them to strategically rebound balls onto the greens and amazing fellow players with their superior course knowledge and skill. The par 4, 327 yard Hole 5 is the signature hole of the Kings’ Course. Although it’s a hole that does not offer the opportunity for best lava rebounding, it does greet a player with an opportunity to use an iron to cross the fairway and to avoid the ancient lava field that has been described as best as a lava monster where balls go to disappear, die and defeated.
The Kings’ Course is a delight to play. The course is beautifully maintained with well-manicured fairways and pristine greens. The resort atmosphere assures players of attentive service and well cared for facilities of any top resort club. Although the atmosphere is competitive, it is certainly casual enough to be comfortable for novices.

Golf Guidance – Beach Course

Many were shocked that anyone would even think to attempt to carve a golf course out of the rocky coastline, through barren brush and lava fields. Expertly design by Robert Trent Jones, the bulldozers arrived and now many years later Waikoloa is home of two of the finest golf courses in the Hawaiian Islands.

There are two courses located within the Waikoloa Beach Resort. The Beach Course offers more than the expected manicured fairways and greens. It is the perfect course for the casual and relaxed vacation player or the handicapped player looking to conquer the course. All players who experience Waikoloa are enthralled with the eternal sunny skies, cool tropical trade winds, ocean and mountain views and glimpses of dolphins and wintering humpback whales.

The Par 70, 6566 yard course is a design that is gentle to novices as the island trade winds, but challenging enough for the handicapped player to dominate without frustration.

The Beach Course is dominated by Par 4 holes and range anywhere from 319 to 447 yards from the back tee. Pair of 5 pars is a part of the front nine while the longest hole starts the back nine. Hole 7 is the signature hole that makes that driver sing off the tee and ends with a green positioned on a lava peninsula with views of playful pods of dolphins. The course is rounded off by a pair of Par 3 holes on the front and back nine. Overall the Beach Course is a well balanced course that has something for everyone. But, certainly all golfers are amazed with the wide open spaces and endless views that can include everything from the highest snow covered peak in the Pacific to glimpses of the summit of Haleakala on Maui.

The never-ending views and wide open spaces of the Big Island’s Kohala Coast have been attracting golfers for many years. Because of the popularity of this picturesque course, early tee times are highly recommended. This course will not disappoint so call today to reserve your beach course experience.

Golf in Fashion at Waikoloa

Like many resort courses around the world, the Waikoloa Beach & Kings’ Golf Course is no different in requiring proper golf attire for players and practice facilities.

Those who are regulars to the islands already realize that casual wear is king. This is the land where ties are found only in the courtroom and aloha attire is the law of the land. However, as many avid golfers already know, there is a dress code for most resort golf courses all over the world. Although t-shirts and flip flops are ok for the beach, the Waikoloa Beach & Kings’ Golf Course requires proper golf attire for all who play or practice at their facilities. The dress code requests that all gentlemen wear a collared shirt with slacks or golf shorts and ladies wear either a dress or collared shirt with skirts, slacks, or mid-length golf shorts. Soft spikes or spikeless shoes are required for both men and women.

However, all these attire requirements certainly do not have to be boring, dull or even difficult. The Waikoloa Beach & Kings’ Golf Course has a wonderful pro shop with a fantastic and fashionable collection of golf wear that caters to both the conservative handicapped player and the frilly fashionista. Golf attire can be fashionable, attractive and fun. Aside from the expected Waikoloa logo wear, there are camo polos for those who prefer a hunting strategy and soft and luxurious polos in a slew of attractive colors. Those who prefer designer wear, the shop has offerings from Oakley, Nike, Puma, Adidas, Footjoy, Jamie Sadock and much more. The ladies can shop for skorts, shorts and even outwear in attention getting colors and cut to fit any fashion forward golfer.

So whether you are packing your lucky polo or prefer to make a new fashion statement, golf attire is certainly not drudgery. To look and golf your best, include a visit to the pro shop or shop online to see the latest in golf wear.
